Site Visit March 26, 2026

Visit to the Cross River Mountain Fire Tower site on Thursday, March 26, 2026 with Taro Ietaka (Ward Pound Ridge Reservation park superintendant), Erika Pierce (Westchester District 2 Legislator), Tom Cohn (Fire Tower volunteer), and Rob Cummings (Fire Tower Volunteer) to check the progress for the project which was recently restarted after the long cold snowy winter atop the mountain.

Four of the five fire tower sections have been assembled. The builders are awaiting the stair risers and treads to install before they can stack them up one by one with a crane (to be delivered when needed).

The fire tower project is expected to be complete during 2026, but the exact date depends on the number of pieces that need to be fabricated for this historic tower.

The county also recently approved a race to raise money for the fire tower: the Fire Tower Half Marathon & 10k Trail Races at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation on June 7, 2026. Registration for both distances is open now at runsignup.com/firetowerraces.
